My name is Ted Goldman. As my career in business was winding down, my interest in photography was ramping up. While I really enjoy photography I was very unclear about what kind of photographer I wanted to be.

Taking a really good look at my photography I realized that I’ll probably never be a great artistic photographer. That conclusion freed me to look for other ways to use my interest in photography. I also realized that I want to do something unique that few other people do. This led me to survey photography very broadly to look for opportunities that would fit who I am. After a lot of research I came across the photo essay as a possibility. It turns out that my business career gave me a range of skills I can combine with photography to create important and compelling stories.

After nine years, I’ve come to a very clear purpose for my work: Telling Important Stories with Pictures and Words to Make a Difference. My greatest satisfaction is telling important stories about people, organizations, causes and issues- poverty and racism are reoccurring themes in my work. I go beyond the obvious to find the story within story and to connect with the reader on an emotional level. My hope is to impact in a positive way people's thoughts and actions- that is, to make a difference.
